What happens if it rains on your wedding day?

Whether a couple plans to host their entire wedding day outside or just get outside for photos, rain tends to be the biggest stress factor leading up to the big day - but the good news is, there are plenty of great opportunities for photos, rain or shine. We'll all cross our fingers that you won't need this advice, but just in case, here's how to prepare for rain:

  • Buy clear umbrellas. If it looks like rain, jump on Amazon and order clear umbrellas for you and the bridal party. Clear umbrellas are my favorite because they don't cast any colors, and they don't block the light from your faces. As long as it's not a torrential downpour, you can get great shots outside with umbrellas.

  • Have your wellies ready. While you're on Amazon looking for umbrellas, be sure to check out their selection of wellies. Grab one in your wedding colors to keep your feet dry.

  • Take heart knowing that it rarely rains all day long. Even during the most stormy wedding days I've seen, there has always been a time when things clear up for at least a few minutes to get a few photos outside. It might just require a little more flexibility to sneak out during a break in the clouds during the reception.

  • Plan a few indoor locations for photos just in case. A little creativity goes a long way, especially when it comes to portraits of the two of you. Close up, you might never know what you're sitting on your living room couch. Look at hotel lobbies in the area (even hotels you're not staying in), covered porches, even ice cream, candy or coffee shops.

While I never wish for rain on a wedding day, I certainly don't fear it. If it happens, we'll make the most of it together.
